Szkoła Podstawowa Mierzęcice,
in Mierzęcice, Poland

SzkoÅ‚a Podstawowa MierzÄ™cice is an 8-class primary school in the village of MierzÄ™cice. There are 316 students aged from 7 to 14 years. In comparison with rural conditions, our school is sizeable. Because of living in a rural area, though, our students’ families have low incomes. That causes fewer opportunities for our students. Their skills and abilities are very mixed. We have very gifted students and those with special educational needs or problems with emotional or social adjustment.
The staff comprises the head-teacher, the deputy head-teacher, and 36 teachers. We have eight students with special educational needs. Two have got an SEN (special educational needs) teacher to help them out. The other two special educational needs students have individual education at home. Eighty of our students have various cases of dyslexia and other disabilities that prove learning difficult for them.
Because we are a rural school, our students are concerned about the secondary schools in bigger cities. Their biggest concern is bullying and cyberbullying. All teachers have a lot of experience in teaching throughout the years and are eager to improve and share their teaching skills. However, they often have problems dealing with modern technologies and virtual requirements. Some of us are experts in ITC, psychology, and pedagogy. Our school is known for helpful and well-qualified staff and teachers, and well-equipped classrooms. We want to prepare our students for education in schools outside our small rural area.
Right now, our school is involved in one European Social Fund project and one Erasmus+ project. The entire staff and all students are motivated to be involved in an Erasmus+ school partnership to broaden our minds and overcome boundaries. We want to teach students essential skills and competencies thanks to the project based on the Key European Competencies. We want to reduce the risk of bullying, cyberbullying, and social exclusion. We believe the more positive the school environment, the better well-being. Students have limited experiences because of living in a rural area. Their knowledge and experiences concern only the village and Poland, so they are eager to integrate with other European countries. We want them to learn life skills thanks to transnational cooperation. Many parents are of average incomes, which reduces their children’s opportunities. Transnational cooperation will open nationwide possibilities for our students. It will strengthen universal human rights and promote values like freedom, tolerance, respect for diversity, and non-discrimination.
